Childbirth Educator Exam

Please view this video for important information on how to successfully complete your exam.

Welcome to the most flexible, unbiased, information-based CBE certification available! Busy birth professionals have asked for a comprehensive online childbirth educator certification process and ProDoula has answered the call.

This path to becoming a Certified Childbirth Educator, brought to you by ProDoula, is like no other. The program consists of an intense, comprehensive, open-book/internet exam.

This exam is a comprehensive open book, research-based exam. While there is no study guide or textbook associated for this exam, there is a reason for that. In this digital age, printed materials such as textbooks and study guides quickly become outdated. As new information emerges, these printed resources do not allow for updated information to be shared with their readers.

In the birth community, it is common for a doula or childbirth educator to hear what they believe to be “factual information” passed on by a provider, a colleague, or at a birth-related conference. Often it is information that is accepted as evidence-based. However, the information passed along in this manner may not evidence-based or is long outdated. As a Certified Childbirth Educator, it is essential that you remain up to date on the most current research.

Part of the exam process is designed to help you learn to identify evidence-based resources vs. opinion-based resources. If you are new to birth work you may not have learned how to identify the difference yet. Some questions on this exam will specifically refer you to the source to answer that particular question. Other questions will require you to research and interpret the information on your own. The following organizations/websites are ones that we have vetted and suggest you explore as the resources you will use to complete your exam.

· ACOG – American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology
· Cochrane Library
· US National Library of Medicine – National Institutes of HealthPubmed
· Childbirth Connection
· Google Scholar
· March of Dimes
· Mayo Clinic

This exam includes a variety of mediums, such as:

· The identification of local resources
