Course Learning Objective:
Lesson One: What is Craniosacral Therapy?
This lesson defines craniosacral therapy and describes how expert providers over the years have come to understand the connection between cerebral spinal fluid, touch receptors, and fascia throughout the body. Further, learners will have the ability to explain the core principles and mechanisms of CST and its application for infants in the immediate postpartum period.Â
Lesson Two: Birth Process and Cranial/Nervous System Impact
This lesson equips learners with the ability to identify how the birth process can influence an infant’s cranial, fascial, and nervous system functions. Upon completion of this lesson, learners will also have the skills to recognize signs that may indicate that a referral to a Craniosacral therapist would be beneficial.Â
Lesson Three: Touch Awareness and Presence
This lesson identifies the principles of intentional touch and the concept of “listening hands.” Further, this lesson describes various methods of touch and equips learners with the ability to define how touch awareness, intention, and energy influences the nervous system and infant regulation.
Lesson Four: Role of the Doula in Supporting CST
This lesson equips learners with the skills to identify when referral to a CST is beneficial and demonstrates how to support clients experiencing these scenarios while remaining within the doula’s code of conduct. Further, this lesson analyzes the importance of demonstrating touch and intention to build support and connection between the doula, parent, and infant.
