This course equips online learners with the information necessary to support doula clients who are diagnosed with gestational diabetes while staying within their defined scope of practice.
Lesson 1 Objective: Diabetes Overview
In this lesson, learners will be introduced to the causes of diabetes, the three main types, and the percentage of pregnant individuals that will develop gestational diabetes.
Lesson 2 Objective: Identifying and Diagnosing Gestational Diabetes
In this lesson, learners will gain the ability to identify risk factors for developing gestational diabetes, how gestational diabetes is diagnosed, and how a diagnosis of gestational diabetes can affect the birthing parent and their baby.
Lesson 3 Objective: How Gestational Diabetes Is Treated
This lesson will equip learners with a comprehensive understanding of the various treatments for gestational diabetes. Additionally, learners will gain insight into how clients and babies are monitored before and during birth.
Lesson 4 Objective: Addressing Common Client Fears
This lesson addresses common fears associated with clients who are diagnosed with gestational diabetes and how to support them while working within the scope of a professional doula.
