Course Learning Objective:
This course equips learners with the ability to support clients through varying degrees of perineal trauma. Additionally, learners will obtain the evidence-based information necessary to prepare clients for their future births.
Lesson 1 – What Is Perineal Trauma
Learning Objective: In this lesson, learners will gather the information necessary to identify what perineal trauma is, how it is rated, and how often it occurs.
Lesson 2 – Recovery and Complications
In this lesson, learners will gain a comprehensive understanding of the recovery process expected for varying degrees of perineal trauma. Learners will be equipped with information regarding commonly prescribed medications, common comfort measures, and warning signs of infection or complications.
Lesson 3 – Risk Factors
In this lesson, learners will identify the factors that increase and decrease the risk for significant perineal trauma.
Lesson 4 – Psychological Effects
In this lesson, learners will gain an understanding of the physiological effects of perineal trauma on the birthing person and their support person. In addition, learners will be equipped to provide informational support to clients regarding future birth options.
