Course Learning Objective:
Lesson 1: Understanding the Impact: This lesson prepares learners with the ability to thoroughly define and recognize the symptoms of the baby blues in both birthing and non-birthing parents. Learners will have the ability to identify and implement concrete strategies to better support both parents.
Lesson 2: Hormonal Shifts Linked to Postpartum Depression and Anxiety: This lesson illustrates how the hormones progesterone, prolactin, and estrogen function and transition through pregnancy and into the postpartum period. Additionally, learners will receive the knowledge necessary to articulate the interplay between hormones and postpartum mood and anxiety disorders.
Lesson 3: Building a Support System: This lesson identifies and describes the role of various medical and non-medical individuals and groups available to support postpartum needs. Learners will gain the tools necessary to create resources to benefit their clients in the early postpartum period.
Lesson 4: What Can You Do?: This lesson imparts the comprehensive knowledge necessary for doulas to recognize the postpartum warning signs linked to hormonal shifts. Additionally learners will be prepared with the skills to articulate and create strategies to support their clients’ emotional, physical, and educational well-being.
